The control module manages the data transfers between the USB and the UART, as well as command requests generated by the USB host controller, and commands for controlling the function of the UART and I/O. All other modules are tied together and controlled via the control module. The control module is the heart of the MCP2200 MCP2200. The Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) Responds to SET LINE CODING commands to dynamically change baud rates, Baud rate range of 300-1000k. Four of the pins have alternate functions to indicate USB and communication status. The MCP2200 has eight general purpose input / output pins. The MCP2200 also has 256-bytes of integrated user EEPROM. The device reduces external components by integrating the USB termination resistors. The MCP2200 MCP2200 is a USB-to-UART serial converter which enables USB connectivity in application that have a UART interface. A DLL is included to allow development of custom configuration and I/O control software. The software also allows I/O control and custom device configuration.
The accompanying PC software is used to evaluate/demonstrate the MCP2200 MCP2200 as a Virtual Com Port (VCP) device. In addition, two of these pins are connected to LEDs which can be used to indicate USB-to-UART traffic when the associated pins are configured as TxLED and RxLED pins respectively. The board is powered from USB and has a test point associated with each GPIO pin. The accompanying software allows the special device features to be configured and controlled.
